More on The Basics of Skincare

April 19th, 2008 | Posted by | Category: Common Skin Care, Skin Care Tips, Skincare Basics | Tags: , , , , | No Comments

Nowadays, there are a lot of choices for skincare products in the market and most of the currently available products contain many different types of chemical ingredients, which can potentially be harmful for all types of skin, not just sensitive skin. As we know, the skin is a very sensitive organ; therefore, we must be careful with it, since it requires the utmost care in maintaining it.
Medical or quasi-medical creams and ointments either do not contain or contain very little harmful chemicals, and will very rarely result in any long term negative effects on the skin. This is why medical creams are recommended and preferred over other treatment options. The medical creams keep skin soft, moist, radiant, and toned, which should be the goal you are after if you are looking into skin care in the first place. Since it is a compulsory to apply skincare daily, it is important to make sure that you’re using the right skincare. The basic rule is to know your skin type. A common misconception is to only judge your skin type by outward appearance, but this is the complete wrong way of looking at it. Instead, you should be considering what your skin is made up of. Of course, it is up to you to choose whether to purchase and apply chemical or natural treatment, but the natural way is by far the best way to go because it works with your body, not against it.

There are four types of skin categories: Oily, Dry, Combination, and Aging. Oily skin requires the use of a moisturizer which does not contain oil. Use of a moisturizer without oil can help prevent acne breakouts as well. Dry skin requires a stronger, thicker ointment or cream that would be applied at night. You wouldn’t want to walk around all day with a face full of dried up moisturizer would you? Combination skin is tricky, and normally requires a bit of both of the previous discussed regimes. Aging skin has been the hardest to fix, since many “cures” are ineffective for lots of people. Usually aging skin care cream is light and airy and will soften and plump the face so as to hid wrinkles and other blemishes caused by the natural aging process.

You also need to take these tips as a consideration instead of just practicing the normal facial skincare routine:

a. Do not just wash make-up away regularly, use the proper make-up remover.
b. Before choosing any facial skincare product, pay attention to your skin type and the environment.
c. Test products by applying them to a small patch of skin; do not start off by rubbing them all over your face.
d. Do not rub your skin too hard.
e. Use lotions with sunscreen (SPF Blockers), to protect your face from the sun.

Remember, taking care of your skin is important, but it will become a nightmare if you apply too many artificial chemical-based skincare products to it. This will normally result in your face getting worse, rather than getting better. To solve this problem, you have to switch over to the use of natural skincare treatment, in other words, skincare products that have all or mostly all natural ingredients. Natural skincare treatments contain oils and essences from beneficial plants, flowers, and other natural sources, that will not harm your skin. You will find that natural methods work much better.

Easy Care for Common Dry Skin

March 30th, 2008 | Posted by | Category: Common Skin Care, Dry Skin, Skin Care Tips | Tags: , , , | No Comments

Dry skin can be very uncomfortable and an eye sore. Depending on the extent of dryness, it can even lead to the upper layer of skin actually cracking. This can be painful. Dry skin is not something that should be ignored. Some people who are suffering from dry skin do not realize that alleviating the effects of dry skin does not have to be difficult or expensive in every case.

Hormones, dry climate, and excessive exfoliation are among the many sources that can dry skin can derive from.

The most common and least expensive treatment for dry skin is obviously a moisturizer lotion. Moisturizers are classified into 2 different categories, depending upon the way they treat the dry skin.

Moisturizing lotions that fall into the first category treat dry skin by preserving the moisture that is naturally already present in the skin. Vaseline is an example of this kind of moisturizer. Dry skin care can be treated from moisturizers like this because they reduce or eliminate the loss of natural moisture that the skin has, holding it in. They can easily be found at the nearest drugstore, grocery store, or probably even a convenience store and they are not expensive.

Secondly, the other category of moisturizers works by adding more moisture to the skin than what is already present. They pull moisture from the environment into the skin, therefore adding to the moisture directly into the skin and reducing the dryness. These are especially recommended for use where the climate is normally humid. Moisturizers in this category are called humectants, and they are not a “greasy” moisturizer. Greasy type moisturizers are not very effective for dry skin care.

Simply using a moisturizer is not enough for proper dry skin care. There is also the matter of using it correctly. It is best to cleanse the skin before using them, and apply them while the skin is still a bit damp. It is ok to exfoliate your skin, as it removes the dead skin cells, but be careful not to over do it. When you are cleansing your skin also ensure that you are not using a cleanser that contains soap because it has a drying effect.

Dry skin care should also include taking care not to overly expose your skin to the sun.
Avoid too much direct exposure to sun by using a hat or umbrella. Ensure that you are applying a sunscreen. You can also find moisturizers that will have sunscreen protection already built in. This is nice because by simply using your moisturizer you are also protecting your skin from the sun.

Dry skin care does not have to be difficult or expensive in every case. Simply using the above information and implementing it you can greatly reduce any dry skin normally. Of course, there are extreme cases that may require more. If your dry skin persists you may want to ask your doctor about it.

Avon ANEW Alternative Intensive Age Treatment - Day

March 21st, 2008 | Posted by | Category: Skin Care Product Reviews | Tags: , , , , | 1 Comment

This is an actual review from one of our readers:

Turning 40 is a major milestone for many women. Attempting to look as if we are not turning 40 is difficult to say the least. One of the greatest products in circulation has got to be Avon’s ANEW Alternative line.

The Intensive Age Treatment line is exceptional for those tiny little wrinkles that we have all come to hate. Whether they are around the eyes or around the mouth, this product works wonders at reducing them. I started using ANEW about a year ago and I have to say that I have never found anything that works like this Avon product.

I love that it is not greasy and goes on clear and smooth. The day treatment also contains an SPF 25 which is highly important for protecting your skin from damaging sun rays.

Overall, I would say that my skin looks much tighter, has more elasticity, and those little lines around my mouth and eyes are all but non-existent. The best part is that it only took a couple of weeks to notice a significant improvement. It is a great feeling to find a product that does what it claims to do. Look 10 years younger? You bet I do! It’s such a great product that I only wish I had found it when I was 30.

Acne Myths- Don’t Believe Everything You Read

January 22nd, 2008 | Posted by | Category: Acne Causes, Acne Control, Acne Skin Care, Acne Tips | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments

This is a review of several acne myths. People believe old wives tales and other nonsense when it comes to the causes, prevention, and treatment of breakouts. I just wanted to take a moment and tell you what is true and what isn’t. We will start with what isn’t true.

Ever heard that stress causes acne? Well, that is not true. Stress, however, will change your hormone levels in your body and that may promote acne.

Sex and masturbation causes acne. Also not true. This old wives tale was created to scare teens into not having premarital sex. We all know how well that went over.

Washing your face a lot will help clear up acne. Not true at all. Pimples on the face are not caused by dirt. Pores do not get blocked from the outside, it happens from within. The pores walls close in on one another. Washing your face may actually irritate your skin and cause more acne.

The sun will help you clear up your acne. The sun may cause your skin to redden for a short period of time. Then your reddened skin will blend in with the irritated acne, but this is only a short-term fix. Sun exposure actually irritates the skin and can cause more breakouts.

Eating chocolate will cause zits. This is not a fact. More research needs to be done in the area of diet and acne to confirm or deny its association. So keep on eating the chocolate if you want it.

Now shaving or waxing does irritate the skin causing bumps. As hairs begin to grow back after waxing, shaving or plucking, they get trapped inside the hair follicle. This ultimately results in irritation and swelling. You should also warm the area you are shaving beforehand and use shaving cream. The type of razor you are using is important also. Shave in the direction of the grain, not against it.

Some medications list acne as a side affect. In this case, there really is no great way to prevent it. You just have to do the best you can. Do not squeeze the pimple when you do get one though. This can cause the surrounding area to become irritated also. Not to mention the possibility of scarring. Be sure to read the side effects when you are prescribed long-term medication and speak to your doctor about your concerns.

Now that I have taken the time to tell you some truth when it comes to acne, I hope that you can make better decisions regarding your skin care. Remember that just because your grandmother told you something caused acne, doesn’t mean that it’s true. My grandmother told me not to raise my arms while I was pregnant because I might choke the baby. They are sweet old ladies, but not always the most up to date.

Acne Prevention: 6 Acne Skin Care Tips for Every Skin Type

January 22nd, 2008 | Posted by | Category: Acne Control, Acne Skin Care, Acne Tips, Skin Care Tips | Tags: , , , , , | 4 Comments

Acne is something that everyone worries about at some point in his or her life. Remember being a teenager and being asked out on your first date just to have a pimple pop up the morning before? I want to share with you some great tips on preventing acne. I will go through 6 acne skin care tips and explain what I mean by each one.

Skin Care Tip #1: Do not over wash. Many people believe that the more you wash your face, the less likely you are to have acne. That is simply not true. Dirt on your face does not cause the acne in the first place. By washing your face too much, you will irritate the skin making it more vulnerable to breakouts. You should really try to limit yourself to 2 washings per day.

Skin Care Tip #2: Watch what you use on your face. Don’t use harsh products on your face. Exfoliating is good, but you should not use a harsh scrub. Try to use a gentle formula with smaller grains in it. Also, avoid products with apricot or almond shell fragments because they can irritate your skin and even cause tearing.

Skin Care Tip #3: Do not wash your face with straight alcohol. Alcohol strips the top layer of skin causing you to produce more oil. This results in your skin becoming dry and red.

Skin Care Tip #4: Do not pick at your face or squeeze your pimples. This causing the acne to become more inflamed and it may cause it to spread. The only thing that will result from this is redness and possible scarring.

Skin Care Tip # 5: Plain and simple, keep your hands off your face. The bacteria that causes breakouts is a normal resident of your skin. Excessive touching of your face can drive bacteria into your pores causing the breakout to begin.

Skin Care Tip #6: Take a shower after working out. Heat is produced through your movements when you workout. Until you shower, that heat and moisture are trapped against your skin and that is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria.

And above all else, find what works for you and stick with it. If you have a product that works wonders for your skin, don’t stop using it. Why mess with a good thing when it comes to your acne skin care?
