Dealing With Arm Acne

June 9th, 2008 | Posted by | Category: Acne Control, Acne Skin Care | Tags: , , , | No Comments

Arm acne is something that is hard to cover up and can be very embarrassing for many people. This is common in teenagers and adults and as common as face acne. Acne on the arms, mostly upper arms, is very common in this day in age.
A few causes of arm acne are from tight fitting clothes and excessive sweating. If you play sports and sweat a lot, then it is likely you have arm acne. Don’t worry – there are ways to get rid of this. It’s not so much different from getting rid of face acne.

There are many full body acne products that you can buy. Washing with these everyday can show a decrease in the amount of acne on your body, including your arms. The most popular is salicylic products. You can buy this in body lotion. Also try using benzoyl peroxide face wash on your arms. This clears up acne within a small amount of time and helps keep it from coming back if used regularly. Try an apricot scrub.

There are also lotions and creams that can provide good removal of acne. The most commonly used would be an ointment with benzyl peroxide as the main ingredient. Another alternative lotion would be Amlactin. Another recommendation would be to use a loofa sponge when showering and bathing. It helps reduce irritation and redness.

Something new to help get rid of acne would be to try warm olive oil. Massage the oil into the affected area on your arm for five minutes and cover it with a bandage. You can leave it over night if you wish, or just a couple hours. The best time of day to do this would be at night before going to bed and after getting out of the shower. The next morning wash it off and apply a lotion to it to keep it moistened because it’s very important for it not to dry out.

Another way to help prevent the acne is lemon juice. You can mix the lemon juice with some sugar to make a light paste. Rub this on your arm for about 10 minutes or so and then rinse it off. The best way to get rid of acne is going to be to not wear real tight fitting clothes and to exfoliate your skin very well.

There are many body scrubs and lotions that are available for your use.

There are many treatments options available without going to the dermatologist so try those first to save yourself money. It is very important to remember that if these things and other things do not work to get rid of your acne, you need to consult your dermatologist. Your condition may be worse than what you thought or it could be something else that is not acne. There are many different alternatives that a dermatologist can prescribe to you that can be very helpful such as prescription lotions and antibiotics or laser if it needs to come to that.

Treatment Options for Severe Acne

June 5th, 2008 | Posted by | Category: Acne Treatment Options | Tags: , | No Comments

When acne is classified as severe a doctor should be consulted. It is very important for a doctor to treat severe acne. It can be difficult to control and can require many treatments if bad enough. Severe acne consists of redness, cysts, and extreme damage to the skin.

A common way to treat acne is oral antibiotics. This can be very effective. These have been used for many years and are still very popular. Doctors usually prescribe the antibiotics in a high dosage at first, which is lowered once the acne is improving.
Oral contraceptives are prescribed to women to help reduce acne. This has a combination of estrogen and progestin, which help reduce oil gland secretions. This is a great option if you have an acne problem and need to be on birth control. Hit two birds with one stone!

Another very popular way of treating severe acne, which has been around for many years, is the use of Accutane. Accutane does have side effects that should be taken very seriously. Side effects can include: shortness of breath, no energy, slurred speech, dizziness. It is common to become depressed while taking this pill or after stopping dosage. There are also drugs that can interact with Accutane, so be sure to inform your doctor of any other medications being taken.

If you suffer from severe acne, possibly large cysts, an injection may be more up your alley. Injections start acting very quickly, which is a reason this is popular. Injections do have to be repeated often to maintain the proper result. The cysts may need to be drained by your dermatologist. The reason for the drainage may be so that further treatment is easier and more effective. Do not try to do this yourself. It can cause the situation to become much worse and infected.

Another popular way of treating acne is lasers. This can also help reduce acne scarring, along with acne itself. This is an expensive way of taking care of your acne, but can help dramatically. Laser acne treatment is revealing more potential as it is used more. There are many different types of lasers that can be used depending on your skin type. Ablative lasers are more invasive than non-ablative. These are reduced by evaporation or melting. Ablative lasers are not used on darker skin colors of patients. The danger in this would definitely be overexposure.

The last resort to severe acne treatment would be surgery. This is not common for many people because other treatments normally work. If your acne is bad enough and does not show improvement with other treatments that are available, surgery may have to take place, but should be nothing to worry yourself about.

Sever acne is a developing problem. It is something no one wants, but it can be cured. The long-term effects can be damaging if not taken seriously. There are side effects to think of when deciding on which treatment to use. Be sure to follow dosage instructions by your doctor, overdosing will only make it worse. Do not be afraid to ask questions about your condition. You need to be well informed of your condition and all treatment options available to you.

Acne is usually caused by changes in the skin structure and pilosebaceous (relating to a hair follicle and its sebaceous gland) units. During pubescent years, acne is a common phenomenon. Popping Pimples

Most magazines have said to keep hands away when it comes to popping pimples, but most acne sufferers know that it can be one of the best ways to quickly get rid of some of those pimples. Pimple popping must be taken on a pimple by pimple basis. The pimple needs to be “ready.” If the pimple is one of those red spots, lingering deep beneath the skin, leave it alone. A pimple where puss can be seen and appears to be close to the skin should be the only pimple considered popping.

A great way to bring one of those red spots to a head it to dab a little rubbing alcohol on it. In about a day or so, that pimple will have been brought to a head with puss in sight, perfect for popping.

Wash your hands and face with Noxzema before starting, not washing with something good could actually make the pimple worse. Instead of squeezing, try using a sanitized needle to gently poke a hole on the head of the pimple. This can leave a drainage area for the puss. If the pimple is squeezed, the puss could be pushed further down under the skin to lurk. Acne sufferers worst fear, the lurker, can even turn into scars over time.

There are many commercial methods out there for popping pimples and other blemishes. Cosmetic tape, syringes, and extractors have all been on the list for years. Many of these methods don’t actually work, but for those where popping and other acne treatments don’t work, feel free to give it a shot. Just remember that there are many treatment methods out there and pimple popping should be used as a last resort. Medications, either topical or oral, should be considered foremost in any sort of acne treatment method.

Noxzema Skin Care Cream

January 23rd, 2008 | Posted by | Category: Skin Care Product Reviews | Tags: , , , | 3 Comments

This is a review of Noxema, the original cleansing cream meant for everyday use to control acne and oil buildup. This comes from an actual user of the product:

noxema-deep-cc.JPG

My family has used Noxzema for as long as I can remember. In, fact that would be about fifty years. The Noxzema that I know and remember is the little blue bottle that is now called Noxzema Deep Cleansing Cream Original.

When I was a small child and there was no such thing as sun screen products, my mother would lather my arms, shoulders and face with the Noxzema to cool down the sunburn I received during the day. Every night in the summer, I would go to bed in my little babydolls covered in Noxzema cream. It didn’t help to prevent sunburn but it was surely calming and cooling as I ached with sunburn.

When I was in my teens, I washed twice daily with Noxzema to combat blackheads and pimples. My skin always felt so fresh and clean when I patted down my face. The company commercials used to say that Noxzema used a greaseless formula and that was true because my skin did not feel oily after I had finished washing.

Nowadays, I use it to keep my elbows and feet soft. The skin at my elbow points gets very dry and actually tears. I rub a little Noxzema on the elbows each day and the cream keeps them softened. I also use the cream on my feet. I find that because I am in high heels all the time, my feet burn and the heels of my feet are cracked. The Noxzema cools the feet down quickly and moisturizes the skin.

Some of the features on the outside of the Noxzema box are:
deep cleans
removes oil and dirt
never greasy
leaves skin soft and smooth feeling

Noxzema is one product that has stood the test of time. Generations have used Noxzema and now the company has many complimentary products in the line.

Acne Causes

January 22nd, 2008 | Posted by | Category: Acne Causes, Acne Control, Acne Skin Care | Tags: , , , | 1 Comment

Everyone gets acne. Everyone is vulnerable. Maybe we should start with a little background on how it develops. The more you know about the way something grows, the better equipped you are to prevent it. At the very least, it might gross you out enough to keep your hands off your face and that in itself will help prevent acne.

There are bacteria on your hands that you can transfer to the pores on your face and other areas of the body. Follicles called pores sometimes get blocked for reasons that no one entirely comprehends. Sebum, which is a type of oil, normally drains to the surface but occasionally gets blocked. Bacteria then begin to grow in that area and micromedones are produced. Both whiteheads and blackheads start out as micromedones. A micromedone becomes a non-inflamed skin blemish referred to as comedones, which can be a whitehead or a blackhead. A whitehead occurs when trapped bacteria and sebum stay below the skin’s surface. A blackhead occurs when tapped bacteria and sebum partially open to the surface and turn black due to the skin’s pigment, melanin.

At this point, a blackhead or whitehead can discharge its contents to the surface and heal. It is possible that the follicle wall will rupture causing inflammatory acne. The rupture can be caused by a random occurrence or by touching the skin or picking at the skin. This is why it is extremely important to leave acne alone. You should try to keep your hands off you face as much as possible. Also when you talk on a phone, you should try to wipe the phone before and after each use. Bacteria grow there also.

There are two types of inflammatory acne: papule and pustule. A papule occurs when there is a break in the follicular wall. White blood cells charge in and the pore then becomes inflamed. A pustule forms several days later when white blood cells make their way to the surface of he skin. This is what people usually refer to as a zit or pimple. It is possible that an inflamed lesion will completely collapse or explode. This can severely inflame the surrounding skin.

Now that you know a little more about acne, maybe you can prevent it a little better. It is hard to believe that the complicated process explained above is how we produce the pimples that we see on our faces. Acne is not prejudiced to any age either. You can get it well into your older years when you think that it should be over.

Acne Prevention: 6 Acne Skin Care Tips for Every Skin Type

January 22nd, 2008 | Posted by | Category: Acne Control, Acne Skin Care, Acne Tips, Skin Care Tips | Tags: , , , , , | 4 Comments

Acne is something that everyone worries about at some point in his or her life. Remember being a teenager and being asked out on your first date just to have a pimple pop up the morning before? I want to share with you some great tips on preventing acne. I will go through 6 acne skin care tips and explain what I mean by each one.

Skin Care Tip #1: Do not over wash. Many people believe that the more you wash your face, the less likely you are to have acne. That is simply not true. Dirt on your face does not cause the acne in the first place. By washing your face too much, you will irritate the skin making it more vulnerable to breakouts. You should really try to limit yourself to 2 washings per day.

Skin Care Tip #2: Watch what you use on your face. Don’t use harsh products on your face. Exfoliating is good, but you should not use a harsh scrub. Try to use a gentle formula with smaller grains in it. Also, avoid products with apricot or almond shell fragments because they can irritate your skin and even cause tearing.

Skin Care Tip #3: Do not wash your face with straight alcohol. Alcohol strips the top layer of skin causing you to produce more oil. This results in your skin becoming dry and red.

Skin Care Tip #4: Do not pick at your face or squeeze your pimples. This causing the acne to become more inflamed and it may cause it to spread. The only thing that will result from this is redness and possible scarring.

Skin Care Tip # 5: Plain and simple, keep your hands off your face. The bacteria that causes breakouts is a normal resident of your skin. Excessive touching of your face can drive bacteria into your pores causing the breakout to begin.

Skin Care Tip #6: Take a shower after working out. Heat is produced through your movements when you workout. Until you shower, that heat and moisture are trapped against your skin and that is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria.

And above all else, find what works for you and stick with it. If you have a product that works wonders for your skin, don’t stop using it. Why mess with a good thing when it comes to your acne skin care?
